Update – KCRMD Notice in eNews

Good news!  Concerned residents have obviously been contacting their Ken Caryl Ranch Metro District or Master Association, because the latest e-newsletter from KCR mentioned the Parcel A fencing issue.  A link is here: KCRMD Statement

As I have mentioned here before, I think our various homeowners associations and the Metro District do a wonderful job keeping KCR the great place it is to live.  Remember, many of these people volunteer their time and are NOT the enemy – they just need to hear your opinions and suggestions about the fence issue.

The statement made by the MD is technically correct – Jeffco is the actual owner of this property, not KCRMD.  If you read the MD’s notice it says exactly what I have said here – it’s a non-exclusive easement.   Which means the easement owner cannot do whatever they want in the easement.   The MD’s statement says a fence won’t “prohibit or impede use of Parcel A by residents or the Rangers for management purposes as access points through the fence will be provided”.   What that means is that KCRMD is resigned to a fence and is living with the idea as best they can by asking the easement owner to modify his plans, but a fence will still impact the scenery, damage the meadow, and restrict public access.

I believe Jeffco has the obligation to oppose the fence as the steward and owner of the public land.

So what does that mean for you if you oppose a fence?  Ask the MD and MA to use their influence with Jeffco Open Space to convince them to oppose a fence.  Even better – contact Jeffco directly (see below) to let them know you live in the county and believe they should not allow the fence.    ALSO – sign the petition!  It’s going strong!  I will be sharing this with Jefferson County Open Space this week.

Here’s a sample email:

I oppose constructing a private fence on public open space in “Parcel A” in Ken Caryl Valley.
This fence is completely unnecessary and will damage the meadow, the scenery and impact public access for recreation.
